Space Empires 4X is a return to the space conquest games of the '70s and '80s, going after the style of current 4X computer games in a board game. It and the expansions are fairly modular in nature, allowing individual extra rules to be added to suit on top of the basic game engine. I've been very happy with it, and it hits our game table on an irregular basis.
